CDSOA Chesapeake Bay Fleet Groundhog Day Extravaganza
Ahoy!!
This weekend we attended our first event with the Chesapeake Bay Fleet of the CDSOA. We met on Solomons Island (MD) at the Holiday Inn Select on Saturday afternoon. The event began with a short business meeting to discuss the cruises for the upcoming year. This promises to be a fun season on the Chesapeake for those lucky enough to be able to participate. We just hope to have the boat ready for at least one of the cruises. (We heard it said that the Fall cruise is usually the best.) Then we had seminars on inspecting and maintaining your rigging and cruising (asymetrical) spinnakers. It just so happens we will have our first spinnaker with our CD22 so we felt fortunate to be able to hear that one. We learned a lot and I think the spinnaker has been demystified quite a bit for us. We learned about some discount sail outlets that we weren't aware of (Crusing Direct and JSI). We had already ordered a new suit of sails from the local Ullman loft, but I think that if they haven't already started on the sails, we are going to try and cancel the order and get our sails through one of these discount sources.
In the evening there was a very nice dinner (prime rib) and I think everyone went home with great prizes and gifts. We came away with a complete kitchen linen set (sailboats of course) and bar-b-que utensils. The company and conversation was excellent and it was so nice to be able to put faces with the names we have been seeing on the Discussion Board. We then spent the night at the hotel and had a leisurely drive home on Sunday, along with brunch at a charming place in Prince Frederick called "Mom's In the Kitchen".
All that sailboat talk got us motivated, so this morning I started making the new mainsail cover and we went shopping for upholstery fabric this afternoon. The mainsail cover project will be posted here on the blog when it is done.
I am planning to start posting some of our rehab projects from our Bristol 24, so check back soon and see what's up here.
Fair winds until next time,
Becky
