A Good Gear Gathering Day......

We are constantly on the lookout for 2nd hand or bargain gear.  I must check eBay a half dozen times a day.  Today I was off work and out running routine errands.  For some reason, around noon, I just got a wild hair and decided to run down to Sailrite and Bacon's in Annapolis and see what I could find.  Sailrite was first on the list.  I got a bolt end of almost 9 yards of True Brown Sunbrella for our new sailcover, tiller cover, winch covers, etc.  Great deal, and just the color I was wanting, classic Cape Dory brown, and only $84.00.  Then to Bacon's, and what a pleasant surprise (shock actually) I encountered there........a Spartan Marine bronze outboard bracket (the ones that came on the Typhoon).  We were about to order a new one from them.  I have been scouring used boat gear places for years and I have never once seen one of those in a used gear shop.  (God does look out for fools and children.  I will let you figure out for yourself which one of those I am.)  Anyway, $100 for the motor mount.  I think they go for $350.  (7-1-2007 - We were not able to use the motor mount, we bought a new bronze mount from Edson, but I sold the Typhoon mount on eBay for $270.  It was a great find no matter how you look at it.)  It was definitely a good gear day.  Oh, and for anyone looking for an old aluminum sea swing, Bacon's had about a half dozen of them on the shelf, some with stoves in them.  Spring cometh........
